Tuesday November 14th -- At around noon we depart for Berastagi, there is myself John Page, Dr. Gary Shapiro & Madelaine Westwood plus of course our trusty driver Dava. Before we are out of Medan Dr. Gary is informing Dava that we must find a good place to stop for .....

Durian. On the last trip out to Berstagi I lost my Durian virginity, so I know what a treat we are in for. However Madelaine, depsite having travelled to Indonesia many times has not sampled the delights of a Durian.

Dava finds a roadside stall out in the country away from the traffic of Medan. We are still roadside with quite a lot of vehicles passing by but the scenary is much nicer.

The Durians are great and with some coaxing Madelaine tastes her first Durian, she must have liked it because she tries a second. Suitably satiated we resume our journey to the Sirabayak Hotel in Berstagi.

Berstagi sits above 5000 feet and the road is a series of hairpin bends or switchbacks. As we near the end of our journey the air tastes cleaner and the temperature is more to my liking.

On arrival I make my way to the conference room that we saw last Friday evening. The room is laid just awaiting the projectors and computers.

Despite our plans we need help with the cables and connectors to hook the audio output into the conference room sound system. The Event Organizer comes to the rescue with a selection of cables and we have sound and video.

The configuration consists of two projectors cross connected so that the same image appears on both screens. The first projector is then fed by 2 computers and a DVD player.

Knowing that everything is ready for the Conference I head for bed around 11pm.
