collage226 September 2015 - Santa Monica, CA - Notable environmental achievements and the people behind those accomplishments were honored during the Second Annual Pongo Environmental Awards and Fundraiser in Beverly Hills, CA on September 26, 2015. 

Among this year’s recipients of the 2015 Pongo Awards include, Dr. Jane Goodall for her lifelong chimpanzee passion studying, protecting and educating people about this great ape; Panut Hadisiswoyo for leadership in fearlessly conserving orangutans and rain forests in North Sumatra; Bradford Schmidt of GoPro for creating "Our Orangutan Brethren", as part of his series of unique and compelling cause-related video stories about endangered animals from the species' perspective; Paul Salaman of Rainforest Trust whose organization has secured the future of over eight million acres of rain forest around the world; and Alexandra Saunders whose company, Nuubia San Francisco, produces award-winning, palm oil-free chocolates that does not threaten orangutans or other wildlife. Finally, Ed Begley,Jr., environmental activist and actor, received a Pongo Award for his lifelong commitment in support of many environmental causes and for leading by example to promote sustainable living  The theme for this year’s event was “Free to be Wild.” The theme represents the foundation's vision of a time when orangutans will be free to wander in the wild rain forests of Borneo and Sumatra as they did before humans became a threat to them.

9 June 2015 - Santa Monica, CA. The Orang Utan Republik Foundation (OURF), a Santa Monica-based conservation education nonprofit that supports the survival of wild orangutans in Indonesia, announced the recipient of its Lorraine P. Jenkins Memorial Fellowship program for 2015. For his study of the conservation benefits of the complaints process of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO), the fellowship is presented to Chris Wiggs, a graduate student at Oxford Brookes University in the UK pursuing a Master’s of Science in Primate Conservation.

18 May 2015 - Santa Monica, CA - OURF Headquarters. The Orang Utan Republik Foundation (OURF) announced that seventeen students from the provinces of North Sumatra and Aceh as well as the province of West Kalimantan will receive the 2015 Orangutan Caring Scholarships (OCS). Ceremonies to honor the students will take place in the cities of Banda Aceh (Sumatra) and Ketapang (West Borneo) in late May and early June. The scholarships are competitive, multi-year tuition awards that enable students to earn degrees in the fields of biology, forestry and veterinary science.

20 April 2015- New York, NY (www.nonhumanrightsproject.org/) - For the first time in history a judge has granted an order to show cause and writ of habeas corpus on behalf of a nonhuman animal. This afternoon, in a case brought by the Nonhuman Rights Project (NhRP), Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Barbara Jaffe issued an order to show cause and writ of habeas corpus on behalf of two chimpanzees, Hercules and Leo, who are being used for biomedical experimentation at Stony Brook University on Long Island, New York.

6 March 2015- Seminyak, Bali-  OURF held its first Indonesian fundraiser, 'Voices for the Jungle", in Bali on March 6 at Warehouse 82 in the Seminyak area. A lot of effort went into preparing for the event but the rain couldn't be kept away during the time leading up to the evening event. Consequently, turn out was lower than had been projected. Nevertheless, everyone who attended appeared to have a good time as they were entertained and educated about the orangutan and its plight.
