In addition to providing education in local schools and training to villagers in areas adjacent to Gunung Leuser National Park, the CECP provides transport of young trees and supplies and a strategy to plant diverse species in degraded forest areas within and around Gunung Leuser National Park.
Additionally, the CECP Team works with local farmers in villages to reduce conflict with ape and tiger populations in adjacent forest habitats by humane methodologies and works to improve community livelihood by enhancing agroforestry techniques that improve productivity on existing farm and community forestland including the creation of recycling/waste management/composting projects; soil quality enhancement, tree-planting, and developing appropriate permaculture methods.
The CECP is a cooperative venture with OURF. The Orangutan Project, Sabin Family Foundation, Excelso, and OURF have provided continuing funding. YSHL also coordinate with other NGOs in the region and with Forum Konservasi Orangutan Sumatera (FOKUS). The CECP vehicle is a Toyota Hilux that was crowd-funded in 2020. YSHL conducts itscond fieldwork in various villages in the Bohorok region.
