Earth Month 2025: Our Power, Our Planet—Acting for a Livable Future

During Earth Month—and especially on Earth Day, April 22, 2025—we are reminded that we share one planet, and with that comes a shared responsibility. Each of us is a custodian of Earth, entrusted with the care of its climate, its communities, and its wild spaces so that future generations can inherit a healthy and thriving planet.

This year’s Earth Day theme, “Our Power, Our Planet,” emphasizes the urgent need to transition to renewable energy and build a truly sustainable future. The global goal is ambitious but necessary: to triple electricity generation from renewable sources by 2030. Harnessing the power of solar, wind, and hydropower—which are naturally replenishing and environmentally responsible—will reduce our reliance on fossil fuels and cut the emissions driving climate change.

No matter where you live—locally, regionally, or globally—everyone has a role to play. Whether participating online or in person, the Orang Utan Republik Foundation (OURF) invites individuals, businesses, governments, and private sector partners to stand with us by donating, volunteering, and taking action to protect our planet. Orangutans and the Climate Connection

For those who care deeply about orangutan welfare and conservation, promoting sustainability is not only about saving energy—it’s also about saving lives. Indonesia’s rainforests, home to all three species of orangutans—Bornean, Sumatran, and Tapanuli—have lost nearly half their forest cover in recent decades, largely due to deforestation fueled by fossil fuel use and land conversion. This devastation has placed these great apes on the critically endangered list.

OURF is committed to raising awareness and driving action to protect orangutans and their habitats. This Earth Day, we invite you to take part by:

(a) Educating yourself and others about the threats orangutans face, and sharing what you learn on social media and beyond.
(b) Advocating for stronger protections by contacting lawmakers and urging them to prioritize habitat conservation.
(c) Reducing your carbon footprint by embracing sustainable choices in energy, food, and transportation.
(d) Supporting local efforts that focus on environmental protection and orangutan conservation.

This Earth Month, let’s use our power to protect our planet—and all who call it home.
