As an Ordinary Member of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO), the Orang Utan Republik Foundation (OURF) is committed to ensuring that the global palm oil industry evolves into one that protects biodiversity, respects human rights, and aligns with the sustainability goals necessary to safeguard orangutans and their rainforest homes.
RSPO’s Shared Responsibility (SR) framework, adopted in 2019, provides an accountability mechanism for non-grower Ordinary Members—including NGOs like OURF—to actively contribute toward the transformation of the palm oil sector. The RSPO's vision, “a global partnership to make palm oil sustainable,” is not just aspirational—it is actionable, requiring all members to report and improve their social and environmental performance.
As part of this commitment:
OURF completes and submits its Annual Communication of Progress (ACOP) and regularly updates the MyRSPO portal with evidence of our environmental and social performance.
We have submitted our Declaration of Support for the RSPO’s SR requirements and are working toward continuous improvement in our public disclosures.
We publicly affirm on this site our compliance and advocacy in line with RSPO’s 29 Shared Responsibility requirements, particularly those aligned with environmental protection, transparency, and human rights.
OURF uses its voice as a voting member to:
Advocate for stronger protections for orangutan habitats, especially peat swamp forests and primary lowland rainforests, through RSPO policies and voting at General Assemblies.
Encourage higher uptake of Certified Sustainable Palm Oil (CSPO) among processors, traders, and manufacturers.
Support sanctions on non-compliant members and promote incentives for those leading with integrity.
Highlight transparency gaps and call for increased accountability from corporate actors linked to deforestation or human rights abuses.
In our work within RSPO, OURF insists on centering the following principles:
Zero deforestation, especially in High Conservation Value (HCV) and High Carbon Stock (HCS) areas where wild orangutans reside.
Community inclusion in decision-making and fair compensation for displaced or affected Indigenous and local peoples.
Independent verification of compliance, not just self-reported data.
Restoration and rewilding of degraded land in key orangutan landscapes.
Transparency in mergers and acquisitions, which can undermine SR tracking and compliance if not disclosed and monitored.
We believe that true sustainability in palm oil must be rooted in justice—for nature, for people, and for the orangutans. As an Ordinary Member of RSPO, OURF uses our vote and advocacy to push for:
Binding commitments with enforceable timelines
Independent monitoring of SR performance
Public transparency via the RSPO Shared Responsibility Scorecard
Clear pathways for improving compliance and escalating sanctions
You can help OURF continue this critical advocacy by:
Supporting our campaigns that promote orangutan-friendly palm oil
Donating to help fund our participation in RSPO decision-making processes
Sharing our updates during key RSPO events, including the General Assembly
Together, we can move the palm oil industry toward a truly sustainable future—one where orangutans thrive, forests stand tall, and consumers make choices aligned with their values.
