The Orang Utan Republik Foundation (OURF) values the principles of good governance and has been improving good governance practices since its inception as a project (OUREI) under a fiscal sponsor in 2004. Once OURF was established in 2007, its board of directors has overseen the administration, management, and governance of the foundation including holding biannual board meetings and special meetings if needed, maintaining our corporate board minutes; reviewing our written policy on conflict of interest; board review & approval of compensated staff and officers; board review of our publicly available annual 990 reports; production of a publicly disclosed annual report; an independent review of fiscal operations, and the adoption of other governance policies including the Equal Employment Opportunity policy, Whistleblowers Protection policy, and a Document Retention & Destruction policy.
As a chapter of The Orangutan Project, OURF leadership serves on the board of Wildlife Conservation Internation, the holding company of The Orangutan Project. Likewise, TOP leadership serves on the board of the Orang Utan Republik Foundation. This interlocking board oversight provides increased levels of transparency and coordination for improved operations.
The Orang Utan Republik Foundation also maintains the Guidestar Platinum Seal of Transparency and a 4-star rating on Charity Navigator to enable prospective donors to review information about the organization's structure, mission, programs & results, goals & strategies, financials, and operations. The Orang Utan Republik Foundation receives the annual Top-Rated Nonprofit Status from Great Nonprofits.
